A letter from 'D-War' AD to Jason Behr fans
May 27, 2005Posted by MyrnaLynne
This letter came today from the 2nd Assistant Director of 'D-War' in response to reading the Dec. 14 report of the set-visit stories and photos by Lettyjasonfan and Dreaming in Purple:

Letter to Fans about Set Visits, Respect and Safety, from "D-War" Assistant Director

Regarding the Dec 14 posting in the archives, some fans got to meet Mr. Behr and they keep referring to "that lady" that was sheparding Jason around. That was me.
I am not "security," but the 2nd AD (Assistant Director), so yes, the actor's security is paramount to me.

I guess what bugs me about the piece is that there is no regard for the fact that we were WORKING there. We have jobs to do, and this particular film was often dangerous with explosions and speeding vehicles, et cetera.

At Santa Clarita, one girl was wandering around with a very young child (not allowed on sets unless cleared by producers) and kept hanging out by the special effects truck! There are explosives, gasoline, and charges in there!

I understand that the admirers of Jason are excited to see him in person, but I am asking fans to PLEASE be mindful of the work we are trying to do. We have schedules to keep in order to get the films completed so you can see them! I know a lot of assistant directors are not pleasant people, which is a shame.

I am a good person and respect what it means to be a fan. I always want to facilitate anything necessary to keep the film going, and to keep people happy, especially fans! The fact is, sometimes I am unable to pull the star away from what he/she is doing, and sometimes (I always ask first) the actor is not feeling well or in character, and is unable to visit with his fans.

I guess my point is this: Please respect the set you are visiting. The two young ladies that showed up on that cold night were very nice, and the photos that were posted... I took those photos for them. They were very respectful that evening in downtown. Jason is a darling, generous, wonderful man and a talented actor to boot.

I guess I am just asking the fans to please show the set the respect it deserves. Ask for an AD, and ask him/ her if the actor is available for a visit. They should always try to accomodate you. If you think you are being sneaky and you want that up-close peek that the security guard or AD denied you... you can be arrested. Don't let it get that far, please.

You could be sneaking around the set and get run over by the stunt driver who was not expecting anyone to be creeping around that corner where you were hiding. Catch my drift? The actors also need some privacy to get their work done to the best of their abilities, which is why you love them in the first place. If they are not feeling safe on my set because of sneaky or over-zealous fans, then it is my problem.

Work with the ADs, keep it fun, keep it truthful, and you will get a lot closer than you expected to, as witnessed in that Dec 14 archive article. They asked me permission, I told them to hold on. I check with Jason, he was delighted, but I had to get him "100%" in hair and make-up first. The girls waited patiently. Their reward: up front and personal attention form Jason. By the way, you're welcome. I don't think I ever heard that said to me.

Please be fans, please enjoy the hard work we as crew and cast put forth so that you can be entertained. That is what we do, that is our job. And for those Jason Behr fans, you could not have picked a better guy. He is a true darling.

All the best,
"That lady"
Squirrel
2nd AD "D-War"
